Why You Should Have More Orgasms

Updated: Jun 11, 2023

As a functional medicine health coach, I’m constantly educating clients about their health.

And to be completely honest, one thing I never thought I’d talk about is orgasms.

But here we are.

A while back I was in a skiing accident that damaged my abdominal muscles. I ended up at a pelvic floor physical therapist who helped me release trigger points and build back my core strength.

We have to know our boundaries and our limits. And when we can no longer do it on our own. We need to be open to receiving help.

So that’s what I did.

And this physical therapist taught me so many things. Things I never knew! I learned about the importance of releasing muscles before they can be strengthened. And that Reverse Kegels are a real thing!

I also read The Champion Orgasm Guide by Isa Herrera. Then I found out Isa was an adjunct teacher in the program where my personal therapist went to school. She’s a 4 time author and all around great coach. I highly recommend you check out her online program!

And what I learned on my journey or self-discovery from this physical therapist is astounding.

The Benefits of Orgasms

Did you know that orgasms strengthen your pelvic floor muscles? Pelvic floor muscles actually contract when you have an orgasm, and the stronger these muscles, the better the orgasm for both partners. Having orgasms is thought to improve pelvic floor function, and vice versa.

Orgasms also help with stress. Many people can understand this visceral feeling because they will fall asleep after sex. Having an orgasm (and even just pleasurable sex) increases oxytocin and may even help with anxiety.

Having regular orgasms can also help strengthen relationships. One study found that the amount of neurotransmitters increases in the body during and after orgasm, suggesting a link between improved connection and great sex!

Orgasms can improve your skin, your mood, your body confidence, your pain tolerance and more! No wonder people love having them so much.

And…they may help you live longer?

No joke, one study found that men (you go guys) who had more frequent orgasms were 50% more likely to live longer. That’s a risk I’d be willing to take!

A Functional Medicine Health Coach and You

Now, sex isn’t (usually) a huge factor in determining your overall health. However, it is a part of a larger picture that we take into account when working together.

And if it is important to you - let’s go there! In Functional Medicine we minimize what’s harmful, maximize nutrients that our body needs to function and thrive, and prioritize an environment for healing. I encourage my clients to prioritize vitamin “J” for joy and vitamin “L” for love that not many people talk about.

The point is, your health is a multifaceted picture. And we are partners creating your optimal health from a functional and holistic perspective - that means I am here to help you set and achieve your goals surrounding any and every part of your health.
